Nihon University Sound Computing Laboratory is always welcoming new applications from prospective graduate students interested in music informatics and entertainment computing.

Those interested should contact Tetsuro Kitahara (kitahara [at] kthrlab.jp) for a chat about the course and what to expect while studying on campus. University entrance examinations take place twice a year in October and February with prospective start dates set at April and September respectively. The contents of the examination will quiz knowledge of informatics and English abilities.

Outside the graduate program, currently enrolled students seeking a two month internship placement with the computing laboratory are also strongly encouraged to apply. The placement offers students the chance to expand their programming knowledge while working on the latest projects and technologies being developed at the laboratory. If this could be potentially of interest, please do get in touch.

Currently, we are looking for interns to be involved with the following projects:

  • Exploring melody editing of melodic outlines using wavelet transformation techniques.

  • Application of the melody editing of melodic outlines in music education.

  • Development of the Jamsketch system: music generation based on an odds prediction model.

  • Development of technology assisted systems that support the creation of mashups.

For further details, please refer to the current research and the member section links. Of course, we also welcome research on themes other than those listed above ( this may include your own original projects or an expansion of research previously conducted at the laboratory).
